  • It’s the pretzel tree for me 🌲🥨 📍Rudesheim, Germany I had never heard of this town in Germany until I did the @avalonwaterways Christmas market cruise last year with @heleneinbetween and it was such a refreshing, small town to walk around and enjoy the festivities without hoards of people!   • Strasbourg is nicknamed “The Capital of Christmas” and BOY does it live up to it! Between the exposed beam architecture, a towering cathedral, and a dreamy French atmosphere, it’s a fairy tale town any time of year. …but then add in the Christmas market… There’s nothing in the world quite like a small European town at Christmastime. I have no words to fully describe it. You just gotta go. And then FaceTime me while you’re there and give me allllll the envy.   • 4 Books to read before visiting FRANCE ⬇️ One of my favorite things to do before a trip is read a book based in the location I’m traveling to. It just gets me so hyped to see the places I’m reading about! If you want to give it a try, here are a few of my faves that are based in France (all WWII historical fiction): ✨Save this post to come back to before your next trip to France!✨ 1️⃣ The Alice Network by @katequinn5975 flips between the stories of an American college girl living in the aftermath of WWII in London and a woman who works as a spy in WWI in France. Women spies? Say no more. 2️⃣ The Book of Lost Names is the book that got me obsessed with everything @kristinharmel writes. Eva finds purpose during WWII by helping Jewish children escape to Switzerland from a small town in France. The twists in this book had me sobbing by the end (in the best way)! 3️⃣ The Paris Library by @jskesliencharles was the first historical nonfiction book I ever read and it caught my interest because I was living in Montana and had just traveled to Paris (both locations are in the book). The book follows the story of Odile, a book lover working at a library during WWII. She ended up moving to Montana later in life and never told her story to anyone until she grows close to her young neighbor. 4️⃣ The Nightingale by @kristinhannahauthor was a book I couldn’t put down. It follows the story of two sisters in rural France during WWII - one stays home and lays low, the other leaves to join the resistance. They both end up doing their part in their own way. I tried to explain each of these books in a way that doesn’t spoil anything, but it’s hard to convey the emotion they being up without giving away the good parts.
