Frankfurt Airport is the closest major international airport to Heidelberg, located about 80 kilometers away. Stuttgart Airport is another option, located about 125 kilometers from Heidelberg. You have the option of flying directly into Mannheim from here, but I’d recommend exploring one of these cities first, and then taking the train from here to Heidelberg.
How To Get To Heidelberg By Train
The main train station in Heidelberg is Hauptbahnhof. Trains will take you from all over Europe into this station, including from Frankfurt or Stuttgart if that’s where you flew in to.
Direct trains run frequently from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg, with the journey taking approximately 50 minutes. The train ride from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof to Heidelberg will take about 1.5-2 hours.
From the Heidelberg train station, it’s just a short tram or bus ride to the city center, where the markets are located.
