What Are Award Search Tools?

If you’ve ever done a manual search to find the best points and miles redemption, you’ve likely found yourself scouring different platforms where you have to individually log in and search for your flight details to see how many miles it’ll cost and what the taxes and fees will be for that flight.

It doesn’t seem like a cumbersome project until you’re on your 4th…5th…10th platform. You’re trying to remember if Virgin Atlantic or Delta is better for booking Delta One seats on. You remember one of the banks has a 20% transfer bonus to…which airline was that again?

To say this process is tedious would be an understatement.

If you’ve gone through this, I know you already see the value of award flight search tools.

Essentially, award flight search tools allow you to search for a specific flight route and it’ll show you all the options from all the different award platforms out there. Think of it as Google Flights, but instead of showing you how much each flight costs in cash, it shows you the cost in points and miles.

Daily Drop Pro is new, but certainly not the first of its kind. There are other options out there. The one I hear the most about is Point.me. I started as a member of Point.me and it helped to significantly cut down on the amount of time I spent searching different platforms to find the best value for my points and miles. Now, I’m a member of both services, so keep reading for my full Daily Drop Pro review vs. Point.me.

Daily Drop Pro Vs. Point.me

Award Flight Searches

Personally, I get the most value from these search tools by searching for award flights. Instead of scouring the internet by searching different airline award program platforms for a flight I want, I can simply search for my starting point, destination, and dates as if I’m using Google Flights. However, instead of showing me the cash cost of each flight, it’ll show me the points or miles cost.

As an example, let’s start with Point.me. I’ll search for a flight from Vancouver to Edinburgh on April 26, 2025 in economy.

You can filter the results to start with lowest points, quickest routes, or flights that Point.me would recommend. Here were some of the first options that came up:

As you can see, each of the search results tells you which credit cards will transfer points to that airline award program and it’ll even tell you if there’s a transfer bonus going on, like you can see in the KLM example.

If you add all of your award programs and credit cards into the platform, you can also filter the search by the programs that you’re specifically part of which is a great feature.

Another feature I think is really helpful is the explore tab. Here, you can choose a starting city and a general travel window and browse destinations with approximate point or mile costs.

A screenshot of the Point.me Explore feature. I'm comparing Daily Drop Pro vs. Point.me and they both have the Explore functionality.

Now, let’s see how the exact search is handled on Daily Drop Pro vs. Point.me.

Within the Daily Drop Pro results, you can see the cash price of each flight with the click of a button and you can also get detailed instructions for how to book each flight.

Winner: Tied. This one used to go to Point.me because Daily Drop Pro didn’t have my favorite award platform included (Flying Blue), but they do now!

Award Hotel Searches

Daily Drop Pro also includes an award hotel search tool. Similar to the award flight search, you just enter your destination and your dates and you’ll see a map of all the major chain hotels and how many points they’ll be for your stay.

Let’s continue with the Edinburgh example and search for April 27-30.

A screenshot of the hotel award search tool in Daily Drop Pro. The search was done for Edinburgh to see how many points each hotel would cost for a 3-night stay. I'm reviewing Daily Drop Pro vs. Point.me and Daily Drop Pro has a leg up because Point.me doesn't have this feature for hotels.

Once you search, you can filter by the major hotel chains if you want to use points from any particular program. You can also sort by lowest to highest points per night.

Here are a few options that came up:

Once you click into one of the selections, you’ll get even more details on the hotel, the transfer partners and how many points you’d need to transfer, and the cash value of the stay.

Unfortunately, we can’t do a full Daily Drop Pro vs. Point.me review for this one because Point.me doesn’t have the hotel award search feature.

Winner: This one goes to Daily Drop Pro.

Cheap Flight Notifications

Daily Drop Pro is actually a re-brand from the company Faredrop. Faredrop was strictly a cheap flight notification tool where they’d send you push notifications and emails when they discovered a cheap flight leaving from your home airport(s).

Daily Drop Pro still includes this service!

When setting up your profile, you’ll choose your top home airports and then you’ll get notifications whenever an inexpensive flight becomes available from that airport. These can be economy or business, domestic or international. You set your preferences and wait to be notified!

Within the app or online, you can also browse the current cash deals from your airports.

Winner: Daily Drop Pro wins this one as it’s not a feature within Point.me.

Additional Features in the Platform

Both Daily Drop Pro and Point.me have a virtual wallet feature that looks somewhat useful. Essentially, you can use this to manually keep track of all of your cards, points, and miles in one spot. It is manual, so these totals won’t automatically update when you gain or spend points. However, it is a bit more convenient for me than an Excel spreadsheet.

The nice thing about Point.me is that you can filter your search results to only include options that you have points for. Within Daily Drop Pro, it doesn’t look like you can filter the results this way, but when you click into more details of a flight, you can see how many points you have for each program.

One last feature worth mentioning is the Pro Lounge within Daily Drop Pro. This is a space where members can chat about recent award redemptions, get advice for traveling to specific areas, and ask questions about anything related to points, miles, and travel.

While this isn’t technically an included feature, I also wanted to add that Point.me has a concierge service available if you want assistance with booking flights, want to chat with someone about points and miles strategy, or other specific scenarios.

Daily Drop Pro vs. Point.me additional features: I have to give this one to Daily Drop Pro because I really enjoy browsing the Pro Lounge for good award redemptions and to see what other points/miles nerds are up to.

Cost of Each Platform

When comparing Daily Drop Pro vs. Point.me, we find that they are both incredibly valuable and will save you a lot of time regardless of which one you choose. For most people, that decision might come down to the amount of value you’re getting vs. the cost of each service.

Daily Drop Pro is $149 annually. When they first launched, they did a sale where you could sign up for $99 annually for life. They said this was going to be their only time doing this, but they might have “first year” sales in the future where the first year will be cheaper, and go up to $149 each year after that.

Point.me is $129 annually, or $12 monthly. Using my link, you can get your first month for just $5!

Point.me has different pricing tiers available. Technically, they have a free version if you just want their explore feature, but to search, it’s going to be at least $129.

Which Award Search Tool Do I Recommend?

In short, it depends on what exactly you’re looking for. If you’re strictly looking for a flight award search tool, then Point.me is slightly more cost effective, so that might be the better route for you to take.

That said, it’s clear in this Daily Drop Pro review that it has a lot more features than Point.me. With the hotel award search and the Pro Lounge, I think their platform is a better value overall, so between the two, Daily Drop Pro is the better option.
