My pre-trip ritual ⬇️

I’ve taken quite a few large, international trips the past few years and in the beginning, it was freaking stressful leading up to them. Would I need local currency? What time do I have to leave? What’s the weather like? Excuse me, they have different plugs than we do??

After a while, I started to get into a routine and now, it ain’t no thang!

Here’s what I do the day before a big trip:

🧳 Pack! I always pack the day before. This includes checking the weather to see what types of clothes to bring. It also includes double checking what types of plugs they use so I bring the right converter. I almost always travel out of a carry on suitcase, so if it doesn’t fit, it’s not coming.

🤳🏻 Charge all of my electronics I’m bringing. My iPad, AirPods, laptops, etc. I charge them all the day before and at the end of the day, pack it all away.

📚 Figure out plane entertainment. Sometimes this looks like downloading YouTube videos, sometimes it looks like figuring out how many ACOTAR books I can fit in my backpack. The wifi on long flights tends to be good, but I always like to have a backup just in case.

✈️ Check in 24 hours before my flight and make sure I can either see my boarding pass or I know where I need to go to get it. Sometimes, for international flights, they make you talk to someone and show your passport. I also just check logistics for flying in general - figure out where the gate is, where I’ll park, etc.

🧺 Clean the entire house. Idk why I must do this even if Austin is here and it’ll be dirty by the time I get back, but I can’t leave my house for a long time without it clean 🤷🏻‍♀️

💅🏼 Get my nails done. Ideally this could happen two days before I leave, but I generally leave it until the last possible second, so that’s how it make it onto this list.

I am not a summer girl by any means…but this one was pretty dang good.

Three things I do to “travel” without using an

Three things I do to “travel” without using any PTO ⬇️

1. Travel while working remotely - my fave! So far, I’ve worked in Scotland, Paris, Switzerland, and other places abroad that I’m probably forgetting.

2. Take weekend trips to places nearby. There’s SO much to see around us that we usually take for granted.

3. Get even closer to home and get involved in some of the festivals going on in my hometown! We just had a logging show near us and the model train show is coming up 🚂

10 things you maybe didn’t know about me! ⬇️

1. My favorite place I’ve ever traveled is Scotland and I’m going back next week!!

2. Austin and I have lived in 4 states together - Illinois, Texas, Montana, and now Washington.

3. I’m obsessed with historical fiction. Usually, it’s been WWII stuff, but I’m also reading a book set in 550 AD Scotland and loving it ❤️

4. I work as a sales engineer for a tech sales company that is based in Chicago. I’m 100% remote and LOVE to travel while I work.

5. I am an introvert through and through, but there are people in my life that give me the same calming feeling that I get being alone and I LOVE them for it.

6. I want to be a mom one day, but like, I cannot picture myself as a mom 🤷🏻‍♀️

7. I was incredibly awkward around dogs before I got Misha. Now, I love them!

8. Austin and I are currently renovating a 100-year old house in a farm town. We’re working on the fence right now and next up will be my office.

9. I have two blogs! One is for work and is tech-focused. The other is my travel blog that hopefully you already know about!

10. I used to play tennis in high school and I want to get back into it, but making friends as an adult in a small town is HARD and you can’t exactly play alone 😭

Everything you need to know about this trail ⬇️

📍Skyline Trail, Mt. Rainier NP

Length: 6ish miles
Elevation gain: 1700ish ft

🚗 WHERE TO PARK: ideally, you’d arrive early enough (before 7 or 8am) and park in the Paradise Inn parking lot. Here, you can go to the visitor center, walk through the inn, and start this hike! If you get here later, cars will start lining the road from this lot.

🥾IS IT STRENUOUS? It’s definitely very steep in certain parts. If you go clockwise, it’s steeper for less distance. If you go counter clockwise, it’s a more gradual uphill for a longer distance. We went counter clockwise and never regretted it. There are a few parts with steep drop offs, but I’m scared of heights and I was fine for the most part. All Trails classifies this as a “hard” trail.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 GOOD FOR FAMILIES? I did see several kids hiking the whole thing, but it was a tad sketchy in parts. The first part is paved, so I’d still recommend walking at least part of the way and you’ll still get amazing views.

⏰ WHAT TIME TO START: the earlier, the better for this one. It’s a popular trail, so it will get CROWDED, especially on a weekend in summer. Shoot to arrive by 7am and you won’t deal with crowds of people until you’re on your way down!

🏔️ LEAVE NO TRACE: there are fragile wildflower meadows all along this hike. The NPS has set up ropes and barriers in places where you NEED to stay on the trail, but try to do that the whole way! Don’t feed animals and everything you bring on the trail needs to come with you off the trail.

🌲BATHROOMS: there are bathrooms at the top of this trail! They were bare bones, but it was a very welcome surprise.
